New Year!!
Hi -
YAY!!! It's the new year of 2007!!
It was SUPER nice to have time off of school, which sounds bad, but I'm not meaning it to sound that way. It was just nice not to have to wake up at 6:45 and to not have to worry about homework.
In science we are doing weird stuff. The other day we put raisins in seltzer water, observed what happened, wrote a hypothesis before hand, and then wrote a conclusion about what happened and why it happened.
In Health/Fitness we just finished up with nutrition and a tiny bit about the digestive system. Now we are moving on to badmitten. So far it's been fun. Especially when me and a couple of other girls were trying to teach a friend to serve correctly.
In Social Studies we are learning about the history of Washington State. At the moment we are working on a project where you pick 2 topics in Washington's history and then write newspaper aricles about them, then you get a poster board and put the articles on it and other pictures and stuff until it looks like a real newspaper.
In English we just had to do a speech about how to do something. I did How to Knit, and I was really surprised when I got an A, because I thought that I was murmering, and repeating myself, and speaking really softly, so yeah. I was also shaking while I was demonstrating how to knit, so it might not have been very clear.
In Math we are doing weird stuff. I don't know what to say other than weird stuff.
In Band we are getting ready to play at the Cultural Festival at my school. We are also playing other cool pieces. (Not about band, but whatever. I got some flute books for Christmas, and they are cool!)
In Painting/Drawing, we had to draw a tree and then paint it using water color and then use 3 water color techniques that my teacher showed us. Now we are learning about contour lines, which include Blind/Pure Contour and Modified Contour. Blind Countour is when you draw a picture of something, lets say your hand. You do this by looking only at your hand, not at the paper, and only drawing one line, while never picking up your pen from your paper. Your drawing may not end up looking at all like a hand, and that's good. You are also supposed to draw details like nails and wrinkles and stuff staying inside the guidelines of only 1 line. Modified contour is when you draw the object exactly how it is, and you can look at your paper and you can pick up your pen, but you are still mostly looking at the object so that you can work in all of the details correctly.
That's about it for school.
Today my family went to one of the local mall places and we returned stuff and shopped. I got a book at Barnes and Nobles and my sister got a jacket at The North Face. It was a good trip overall.
I think tomorrow I will be working on the newspaper thing for Social Studies that I mentioned, because it's due on Monday!!
Have a great January!!
