School and Stuff

Hello -
So, last weekend I was with my dad. And he told me and my sisters that he was getting married. Not totally unexpected, but still. He and his fiance plan to get married in February in Hawaii. My dad's fiance is nice, and she has 3 girls around my age, who are also nice.
This weekend I read Terrier (Beka Cooper) By Tamora Pierce. It's her newest book. It was really good!! It was also really interesting, to see how many different kinds of magics Tamora Pierce can think up for different characters in her books. She has a good imagination.
Meg Cabot is also coming out with a new book. Princess on the Brink, her 8th book in the Princess Diaries series, is coming out this January.
I also recently read 30 Guys in 30 Days. It was ok, but Terrier was better.
SCHOOL -
1rst Period - Science -
We are now doing stuff with atoms, and what atoms are made up of and stuff like that. I now know that atoms are made from Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons. Protons and Neutrons are inside the nucleus, which is the center of the atom. The Electrons move around the nucleus. The number of Protons in the atom identifies what element it is.
2nd Period - Health/Fitness -
Lately we have been doing stuff with Alcohol, Drugs, and Tobacco. Everyone had to write an essay about a certain kind of Alcohol, Drug, or Tobacco and it counts as half your grade. I'll post my essay here.

An inhalant “is a medicinal preparation for inhaling”. That doesn’t tell you much about inhalants, so I’m here to tell you more. Inhalants are a type of drug that include nail polish, glue, paint, and more. Inhalants are drugs that you breathe in through your nose. Inhalants can cause mind-altering affects on you and your life. My essay is going to tell you about inhalants and how dangerous they actually are.
The problem with inhalants, is that they are mostly just common household objects. They come in the shape of nail polish, glue, paint, spray paint, hair spray, cleaning fluids, gasoline, and more. Even though they are found in a lot of common places, it doesn’t mean that they are safe. People use these as a drug when they smell/sniff them. People use inhalants because it makes them high, even though most inhalants DO NOT smell good.
If you use inhalants, the main thing that happens, is that you can get high. Usually this lasts only a couple of minutes, but if the user continues to sniff the inhalant, it may be a prolonged period of time. One short term effect of inhalants, is that it can slow down your bodily functions. Here are some other effects if you use inhalants, slurred speech, hallucinations, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, memory loss, concentration problems, blindness, and nerve damage. It may also result in death if your heart fails. Inhalants are not safe things.
Here are some statistics about the use of inhalants. According to NIDA’S Monitoring the Future study in 2005, 17.1% of 8th Graders, 13.1 % of 10th Graders, and 11.4% of 12th Graders said that they had used/abused inhalants at least once, maybe more. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health in 2005 stated that about 22.7 million Americans 12 years and older had said that they had used inhalants at least once in their life. In 2001, 17.4% of 9th Graders, 14.0% of 10th Graders, 13.8% of 11th Graders, and 12.5% of 12th graders reported that they had used inhalants before. This data concludes that inhalants are used and abused, and that you need to watch out for them and use them correctly.
In conclusion, I just want to leave you with the idea of how bad these drugs actually are. You might enjoy it for a while, but then your life will come crashing down around you. You won’t have as many friends as you had before you started using inhalants. Your family might be more cautious around you, which will make you feel uncomfortable. Inhalants are dangerous drugs that can really affect you, and how you live. I suggest that you don’t use inhalants for any reason or circumstance. Afterwards, you won’t be happy if you do.

3rd Period - Social Studies -
We are studying Washington state history. We were doing geography, but we took a 5 page quiz on that, so now we have moved on to history. So far we haven't done that much.
4th Period - English -
We read The Pearl By John Steinbeck. We had to write an essay about a character from the book, and their strengths and weaknesses. We also had to take a vocabulary test on some vocab words from the book.
5th Period - Math -
We recently finished our first book of the year, and we have now moved on to our second. The first book had stuff like Slope, rise, run, and finding x in an equation. And how to make an equation. And more stuff like that.
6th Period - Band -
Band is going good. We have our first concert this Thursday. We have a strict dresscode - Black Bottoms and a White Top. And guys can't wear a tie unless it is only black, and that's it. We will be playing - March of the Irish Guard, Shenandoah, and Pueblo.
7th Period - Chef's School -
Chef's School is good. Nothing too exciting. We made pizza, cake, biscuits, scones, omelots, and more stuff. We had one homework assignment, and we just got another one. The only homework that we get is a cooking asignment, where we have to cook something (anything) but we have to do it in a certain time range, and we can't make anything out of a box.

I think that about wraps up my life at the moment. I'll tell if anything else big comes up.
